After the glow

Well, it is after the glow of seeing our daugther and on the road again. We are heading back to Deming to stay on our little piece of property for a bit. We have discovered these fuel prices are killing us in Driving time. It cost about a $100.00 a day to travel. Fuel cost only. Normally we drive a day, stay a week. Sometimes two weeks. Leaving Tracys in Amity we have traveled long days for three days now, and are feeling the pinch. So we made it to Moab to boondock for a bit, lick our fuel wounds, and recoup from the long drive time. Usually we only travel four hour days, but since leaving Tracys, we have traveled three eight hour days. Way to much.
However, our visit with Tracy was great. We stayed in an RV park eight miles from Amity. It was a very nice park with lots of flowers and friendly people. I am pretty sure the name was Mulkeys. It is on hwy 18. We actually HAD to pay full price of $144.00 a week. But worth every penny to be with Tracy for a few days.
She and Nate (her boyfriend) has a really neat apt. in Amity. It is in an older building and there apt is over a Mexican Restaurant. The restaurant keeps their apt warm. The light fixtures in the apt. is 1950's and just awnsome. We really loved there place. They have two bearded dragons (lizards) and a kitty Tracy rescued. The kittys name is Tempest (meaning storm). I call him my grandson. I played with him daily when we were there and now tracy has to retrain him since I spoiled him and let him play rough.
Nate had a few days off from roofing due to the weather and is happy to be back at work. Tracy just started a new job at a restaurant three days before we left and really loves her job and the people she works with. She is doing the dishes and janitoral work. Her boss said he would put her out on the floor, but she said no Thank you, she does not want to deal with the people. She is happy where she is for the time being. We ran around town, did lots of Geo Cashes, did a watercolor and lots and lots of other stuff. Tracy and Nate took us to a shop and I put some of my jewelry in for sale. We also went to a Geo Caching event and met lots of wonderful people and made some new friends. Nikki and Scott being our favorites. Nikki and Scott go by Otisprincess. Otis being there last name and princess as Nikki is the princess of Caches. She has placed most of the caches in the Yamhill area I think. I think we got Nate hooked on Cacheing. He has eagle eyes to!!! He found lots of the caches we went to and can spy the little bitty caches really fast. Both "the kids" are happy and that is what counts the most in life.

We had a tough decision to make and decided not to go to Southern oregon and Northern California to see our long time friends. After figuring the fuel cost, cost of parks to stay and Travel time and distance, we decided that our bank account was going to suffer greatly. So we decided to put off the visits to our friends for next year......or when diesel comes down. Here in Utah we are now paying $2.89 per gallon. In New Mexico the diesel is $2.55, and in Mexico it is $1.89 a gallon. Yeah, we will be in mexico soon. Probley in November sometime
.
As for Chuck and I, we are doing well. I am really tired today and Chucks back is bothering him a little. It is cold here (in the mid 50's) so I am in sweats with a cover blanket on me. We started seeing snow on the mountain tops yesterday and this makes us even more wanting to get into some warm weather. Anything below 70 is now cool to us, and anything below 60 is freezing. The nights have been in the 30's and I am just not wanting to get out of my warm blankets in the mornings.
Maybe I should of called this blog "Want a little winnnneee with that cheese" because of my crying about the cold and fuel cost. Hay, it is just good to be alive is it not!! Ok, I will go take a nap and then I will not be so sniffley. Until then, suffer with this blog and we will talk to you all later.
Chuck and Dee

Oh, before we go, We wanted you all to see this!! We stopped for a Geo Cache on the road called "These boots were made for walking". I wondered why that phrase until we stopped at it. Look at this tree!!!

Ok, here is a closer look!! Some of these shoes have been on this poor tree for years. Some of the shoes are dated, some are not. I do not know how this got started, but it was so unusual that we just had to let you all see it for yourselves.
